Contour Bias: "When presented with objects that possess sharp angles or pointed features, a region of the human brain involved in fear processing, the amygdala, is activated. Likely a subconscious mechanism that evolved to detect potential threats, this fear response suggests that angular features influence the way in which objects are perceived."
"Angular objects are more effective at attracting attention and engaging thought; contoured objects are more effective at making a positive emotional and aesthetic impression."

Another gem from Universal Principles of Design:
"Cathedral Effect: A relationship between the perceived height of a ceiling and cognition. High ceilings promote abstract thinking and creativity. Low ceilings promote concrete and detail-oriented thinking."

I can only think of one site that incorporates this, Forrest, a design community (and I think it is no longer around). Do you know of any sites / apps that deliberately look like nature?

Great book so far. Similar to A Pattern Language (for architecture but I think designers in general / most people would like it too as it's really about human nature).

"A comparable effect was observed with college students based on the nature views from their dorm windows. Studies that examined the effects of gardening, backpacking, and exposure to nature pictures versus urban pictures corroborate the effect."

Making an Insight feature that will let you find your closest personality matches (only for public reports) along the Big Five dimensions. Feature creep? Perhaps, but adds a nice social discovery element. At least one study shows that we tend to friend people like us so it could be useful.

When I first lived in a hostel most people didn’t have laptops, digital cameras, or even phones. If you wanted to contact someone you got a physical address to their parents house or you could call a hostel and leave a message to get stuck up on a board. Most people didn’t have email addresses.
The "social platforms" of the web0 world. #lkie although email is quite convenient :)

Slight overfocus on buidling over marketing/seeking contracts/finding people to partner with. Noted and will correct later. First alpha of #satsearch almost ready.
#lkie That looks like a wonderfully simple UI. Looking forward to trying it out!
I relate to the focus on building over marketing, etc. Reading / watching Seth Godin is really inspiring for marketing stuff.

Any tips to share?
One thing that's really helped is doing uneven pull-ups with a resistance band. Grip the bar with one hand and the resistance band with the other, and focus on pulling with the bar-hand into your shoulder.
Doing that for the last 3 weeks, I got one PR last week and one today. That is very fast progress for me; my previous pull-up PR was in Feb.

Photographing a classic hostel moment in case I make it to 40 and get the classic midlife crisis where I want to prove to people I was young once
#lkie enjoy. I was just reminiscing about the hostel experience. Fun times :)
What are you working on today? Insights for me again. Writing copy mainly.
Pullups. Getting better, slowly.
From the Economist "Stephen Schwarzman, one of the founders of Blackstone, donated £150m ($190m) to Oxford University, the biggest gift to a British institution of learning in modern times. The private-equity investor said the money would help research into artificial intelligence, which governments “are utterly unprepared to deal with”." Thoughts?

I collect #blockHorses. And Peepeth badges I guess. What's your favorite collectible?
Working on Insight again today: making progress on the landing page, copy, and design.
Peeping on an exercise ball is quite relaxing. Feels great to stretch out on this thing.

- https://nolt.io/ (b2b tool) - https://www.xero.com/ (accounting. a little cluttered, though judging by their sales it's effective for their target market) - https://zeit.co/now (devtool) - https://www.spotify.com/ - not a landing page but I love https://www.rferl.org/ - very clean design, minimal ads, just value.
Thanks James!

Worked out earlier today (calisthenics/sprinting), got rained on, and still don't smell nor feel like I've sweated. The hippies got something right.
They're awesome. Sometimes I'd launder it in the sink and put it on immediately, because nobody could tell it was wet and it was hot out (same one as in my background pic).

Oof. That'd be nasty. Imagine how many years of doing absolutely nothing, or getting chewed up by anxiety/pain/frustration/jealousy/loneliness. Good way to push you to maximise the joyful/engaged times.
If only one could keep it top of mind all the time. Like memento mori. Although certainly possible to move in the right direction.

Created an espalier frame for an apple tree today at the #allotment. The weight of too many apples was causing it to bend and flop. This should hold it steady and give better light to improve the crop. #gardening
Talk about quality problems :) that looks amazing. Hope the frame holds up until the harvest. What will you do with the apples?
