It turns out actual peeps are not stored on Ethereum. What is stored there is a static link to specific IPFS (decentralised data storage, see ipfs.io) location. New peeps are pushed to this db. It costs no fees. Ethereum state does not need to change when new peeps arrive.

Since the peeps are only batched once an hour into Mainnet, the platform is paying the gas and there's only 24 transactions per day regardless of activity on the site. (I believe. See https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/9p24mb/peepeth_is_now_free/)

So writing something to Ethereum blockchain costs gas, right? How come peeping is feeless? How are peeps stored on the eth blockchain but costs no gas?
