I want to read a comic book about a superhero who's power is the ability to smell things FROM THE FUTURE!
I look forward to the day when gmail.com e-mail addresses are an embarrassing relic of a naive era... kind of like how aol.com addresses are these days.

Nice share
Thanks, @JustMatthew!
I just learned about "POSSE" (Publish on your Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere). I've been half-assedly doing this forever. This wiki has some great tips! https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started
I was just to someone about "peeping" and realized that I shouldn't be bragging about "peeping" without context, haha. "I was peeping all morning, it was awesome."

Simpler is to fund a faucet for people to self serve or people could peep requesting Ether.
That'd work. Any idea how to do that? I recall needing a non-zero balance to save a new account too, so that'd have to be changed. Need to make all fees optional, and have a checkbox in profile for donation. If the Peep faucet runs out, the peeps stop flowing until people donate.

Blockchains cost money to run so someone has to pay. Blockchain transaction fees for batched peeps are pretty low at the moment.
WiFi isn't free, but I have an open network that anyone can use without notifying or paying me. It would be nice if more blockchain tech was like that. Could I theoretically run a zero-gas Ethereum node or something? I (and others) will pay for the system so that it can be free.

Do we have any other amateur knob twiddlers on here yet? Waiting to be verified before I can start posting on d-tube but for now, here's one of my demonetised pieces of music on YouTube. :D https://youtu.be/jv9QIja4Brw
I'm just beginning to teach myself modular synthesis with https://vcvrack.com/. You got any favorite artists? I haven't found many... I like https://soundcloud.com/colinbenders alright.

But that still doesn't solve the GDPR issue. There has to be a way to permanently delete things for the purpose of privacy without succumbing to political censorship. Maybe a moderation group picked by lottery that validates that it's embarrasing, not political.
Thanks @tonyherrera!

Just started an IRC channel on freenode: #peepeth. Stop by for non-blockchain indexed conversation :)
Thanks! Yeah, I was just about to post that we're all paying to be on the permanent record here. Good conversation, but not really a good conversational interface yet.

Groups that burden the task of filtration end up in a position of power where they are corruptible, or succumb to the desires of the people creating an echo chamber.
Yeah, that's why I suggested a lottery system. Disposable groups of strangers are probably less corruptible? But also probably more likely to troll or abstain from voting... We could add a reputation system to incentivize participation, but then Orwellian spiral...

Easy; just get rid of the government instead of your post ;)
Haha! That's awesome. I wish I could.

I would love to see voluntary censorship, where, for example, if I got drunk and uploaded picture of my butt as my background image, I could flag it as "embarrasing". Another member who chooses to respect personal privacy could opt not to see anything "embarrasing".

Yeah, I see your point. I think censorship on front-ends will always be problematic, for as long as front-ends are centralized, but at least I could make my own front-end for peepeth if I didn't agree with peepeth.com's policy.

i think this could be possible in two ways. 1. government/nonprofit subsidization of gas costs 2. a private company (like an isp or something) bundling eth gas with their plans it doesn't need to be free, it just needs to feel free
Yeah, something... I think government is the wrong direction. A non-profit would be better, but still probably too centralized. It needs to be run by a smart contract that accepts donations and auto-scales the donation cap based on the actual gas cost...
One last thing: if any of you is curious about decentralization or blockchain stuff, contact me and I'll happily talk to you about it. I can help you take your first steps too: buy a few dollars worth of ETH, setup Metamask, etc. It's not hard, but it is different.
The last few posts were all auto-tweeted to Twitter because I connected my accounts, but that's just enabling you folks to stay on Twitter. Goodbye for real this time. All my future posts will be found https://peepeth.com/evanstucker.

The fact that it can't be deleted is a feature, not a bug. It may take some time to propagate on the blockchain, but users see it on the front-end right away. The cost is debatable, but I personally don't see it as a problem since you can choose when to send a batch below 15 TX
I don't have a problem with the cost either, but even one penny effectively makes this service pay-walled. "Free" is critical to mass adoption. I wish there was a way for me to run a node that could charge 0 gas, and put stuff on the blockchain for other people for free.

Haha, I think the phrase "it's a feature, not a bug" is a bug. And I'd argue that flagging things to censor them is also a bug. I guess since it's all in IPFS, it's never really deleted... and that's gonna pose some challenges for public acceptance and GDPR compliance.
I guess the cost of imitating a centralized app is speed and indexing. We'd need a bunch of Golem jobs scraping all the IPFS content to create meta-tags for topics like "portland", "bmx", or "gardening". I'm just rambling, because I can submit up to 15 posts for a penny, heh.
IPFS is free. Seems like we should be able to create a name like peepeth.evanstucker.com, point it at IPFS where we have a file like peepeth.json, and then register our name at peepeth.com. Then peepeth.com could just load content from IPFS sites of people you follow...
Full disclosure: this new, exciting future isn't 100% free, which irks me. A post on Peepeth costs about one penny, can take a couple hours to propagate, and can't be deleted. I feel like blockchain isn't quite the right solution for a Twitter clone, but it's still better...
I'm actively moving to decentralized services, because I only want to see content posted by my friends - no more ads! Not many people are on these new services yet, but if we all take a step in the right direction, we'll get there. Goodbye Twitter, hello Peepeth.
