Good q! I think the FANG approach looks way too much like thought-police, and plays into Infowars' hands, but I might be wrong.
It's terrifying that I need 2-5 step verifications to reach some new academic research (that comes with warnings that future testing is needed!) but there's infinite no of conspiracy amplifiers 1 click away on any social media. That's not free speech, it's Idiocracy in real life.

Isolating a cult empowers its leader
Radicalizing people for advertising money is not only evil but a danger to our future survival. It's not just Jones, also antivaxers, flatearters, all sorts of cults, porn&gore animations on YTkids, so pretty much all it's becoming more harmful than helpful. What is the answer?Dk

I am not a Jones fan. I still think this is spooky and bad.
What is your opinion on Logan Paul?-the youtuber who stumbles upon a suicide victim and shows it to his mostly adolescent followers bc it's sensational and makes fast views; his video was taken down, he was also shut down by YT (temp or permanent, not sure).

Alex Jones got banned from Apple, Youtube, Facebook, Spotify in 12 hours. Big tech companies are now the judges of what is free-speech or not.
Alex Jones, the guy who called Sandy Hook shooting a hoax, same person who started Pizzagate is no longer given a free megaphone? Good, we don't need to give the microphone to the village crazy in order to prove we have free speech. No one stops him from getting his own site=free

I'll play the devils advocate with you, since you've only gotten rebukes. If people liked those things, they would pay for them voluntarily. We could get more creative with financing. Theft is about *how* something it taken - not if you like what's done with your stuff after...
Paying for every service would increase the divide between lower & higher wealth families exponentially with each generation, getting more and more ppl under poverty line without any chance of exit (with higher child mortality & more children\family, paradoxically).
Patrick Stewart will give us another round of Capt Jean-Luc Picard via #StarTrek. Make it so!

BigHistoryProject.com it's also a good place to start tracking history knowledge (specially if you want to share the info with youngsters)

“Taxation is theft, purely and simply even though it is theft on a grand and colossal scale which no acknowledged criminals could hope to match. It is a compulsory seizure of the property of the State’s inhabitants, or subjects.” ― Murray N. Rothbard

TIL about the globalized world of the Bronze Age: 700 years before invention of money there were commercial routes linking the mines in Siria with nowadays Egypt, Cyprus, even Scandinavia. How could such a strong network fall? https://youtu.be/bRcu-ysocX4
Fun fact: upon testing the ivory pieces from the Bronze Age, scientists realized 90% of it is from hippos, which is strange because they're no hippos in Levant (Syria)...Not anymore, anyway.

Welcome to Peepeth, terence! The name is pretty-much set. It'll grow on you. #welcome
It really does grow on you (peepeth), pretty much like Tim describes the process here https://youtu.be/frNpdG4F9mw

Great suggestion - had thought about them but seems to be more focused on quality photography (as you note) and less so on cute pics of kids and cat pics to share with friends and family.
I took it as a challenge to up my game in photography, and it also encourages to be selective about which pics to put online - so I decided to post max 1 picture/day and in the end is more than enough even when I want to share pics with family.

Having switched from FB to IG exclusively for a few months for friends and family contact, I note that IG is now doing what annoyed me most about FB. Should not be suprised given same company but still. Now I need a good IG replacement. Pixel.social won't cut it, yet. Others?
Vsco is my favorite: with a higher quality of the pictures, and their own fast editing options (I sure was glad to escape the pink&purple insta-filters!). Really nice app if you are interested in photography (amateur or professional).

Khan Academy :)
They are great indeed, but I was hoping to learn a new trick 😅. I'm also using datacamp, memrise & duolingo for entry-level lessons; cost-free & enjoyable, other really good resources.

One day Statist will oppose crypto-technologies application as a currency en masse. Presently it seems to be well received but the ideologies will clash. Blockchain will become highly political and will be very polarized.
It's a grim future we build every day we put (any)ideologies above decency and helping each other.

I'm in public & don't want to offend. Tell me hate speech is in this?
A self-identifying "critic of islam" young lady goes to a predomly muslim neighborhood and tries her best to show Islam into a bad light. Nothing happens really, but she declares free speech & Islam as incompatible. And we also know where this type of rationalizing is going :(

Videos like this really make me appreciate Free Speech! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drT2ZOm3vPA
First "hate speech disguised as freedom of opinion" peep. Does hate really fill any emptiness inside, or is it just bc controversy makes for easy views & money?

Very interesting initiative #Trudia, l will follow with much interest. I noticed initiatives for rating credibility of news or official statements (Washington Post, factual.ro), wondering how effective are for general public?

Just mulling over what makes something "valuable" and how the relates to "captured value" ... prompted by this thread: https://twitter.com/RyanSAdams/status/1022114398683508736 Curious what you Peeple think. Random/Tangential thoughts/reflections also appreciated.
If value creation would be appreciated more than the appearance of a trend we would pay teachers more than we pay foto-models. Of course this lack of judgement transfers into our digital world.

Great way to go! I'd say speaking German might be easier because there is less growth ontop of the language or <= to a few Python libraries. Wich libraries where you looking at and what are you going to use both for? Viel Spaß
German is for connecting with new friends, Python for new colleagues.
Starting lessons in German and Python, wonder which will be easier to get fluent in. They say it takes around 9 months to get comfy using a new language, what's your experience PPers?

Another thing that excited me as much as the colonnades in the basilica is the sanitary channel which ran across the city and collected all the waste water, mixing it with running water and taking it out of the city. #acrossRomania Bonus: Barcelona was initially a Roman castrum.
Urban development and history are very sexy topics on their own, but together it deserves an enso 🎑

That's cool! Is that true of private farmland as well?
Private land is in a category of its own - need agreement from owner if possible, but if you are in a wild area of safe country just use common sense and be gentle with the land you camp on.

Loving your updates! Makes me want to plan a trip of my own. By the way; where have you been staying at night? Are there campsites, or are you rough camping?
Btw it's not camping if you don't stay more than 1 night & if you don't start a fire; stealth camp is called bivuac and it's not legislated (so it can't be illegal) 😇
