My favorite moment in the last few months of blockchain is an op-ed by a Tezos employee decrying "greed" in token sales.

Welcome @evanvannvess. I have been peeping Week in Ethereum news but even better to have you on here.

@bevan @abcoathup how do actions still happen and appear on peepeth even if I haven't saved them yet? is it because they're still a "transaction" but just unconfirmed? would they get removed if I were to reject the transaction later on?

The front end keeps a record of peeps that haven’t been saved to the blockchain. The front end allows you 15 actions when signed in before requiring a save.

There isn’t currently a delete of peeps that haven’t been saved to the blockchain yet, but I believe that there will be.

But the Peepeth backend server reflects new peeps immediately, even if they haven't been committed yet.

I assume the front end has a database for peeps committed and uncommitted. IPFS and the blockchain give permanence and can be used by other clients.

@bevan What happens if you make a peep but never commit it to the blockchain?

Your peeps are in IPFS but only the peepeth front end has a link to them. (So other clients couldn’t see your peeps). Though the front end enforces a 15 peep batch limit so you wouldn’t be able to peep after that.

I'm primarily a desktop user as well, but I have to admit that having Twitter on my iPad has occasionally been very convenient. I've known a few people who don't even own a computer now. They live exclusively off their smartphone.

I use a laptop for development. For pretty much everything else I use mobile.

Apr 09, 2018 22:49

This is how great the mobile blockchain space is. Constantly improving.

Devs and leads from #Toshi, #Cipher and #Trust are all on peepeth.

The easiest way in my mind to onboard a new user is via mobile.

When @abcoathup says something about mobile - I tend to take notes. He's basically a mobile wallet guru.

Not a guru, just very passionate. For me the future is mobile rather than desktop.

When I come across a new project, first question is do I like the concept, second is does it work on mobile. If it doesn’t I contact the developer.

Peepeth had to work on mobile to be a success

Having a bit of a problem with the Trust browser on iOS. Is this a problem with Trust or Peepeth? #bug?

It’s an issue with #Trust @vikmeup.

Your nonce hasn’t updated correctly. Try restarting the app.

You can update the nonce (check nonce of last tx and update using gear icon) or in the short term you may want to use #Toshi or #Cipher. I switch between all three all the time.

If controlling addresses could only be added, but never removed - I think it would minimize squatting and the market on names. It would also provide some flexibility... have also mentioned this to @Bevan.

You may lose control of an address though.

Social recovery, potentially with a stake could be good in the medium/long term.

Apr 09, 2018 21:27

Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)

I have pleaded with @Bevan to make that an impossibility. But... well... I can only suggest. He's the CEO. Without some rent - any potential profit from selling names will make squatting risk-less. It also brings up issue of deniability which undermine permanence, imho.

I haven’t looked into the twitter handle market. On the whole I assume that there is enough combinations that can be used instead. Vitalik fakes and free ETH are an example of this.

@callmegwei already made a good point on why transfering addresses should not be possible.

Name squatting has already started to a small degree.

That is the downside. The upside is that it gives peepers more flexibility of their identity and address.

I can certainly agree with that. All the potential experiments and discoveries have me perpetually excited about this space. People staring at prices & charts get en emotional rush... but being involved in the space gives you that plus an intellectual rush.

I am an engineer. Buidling is what I know. So many green fields. So much excitement.

Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)

This would allow a name market to develop and name squatting would be a huge issue. I can go on record saying the convenience this would provide would not outweigh the cons, imho. Wallets supporting multiple identities is a great start - the more seamlessly the better.

Changing address is in the smart contract but not yet in the front end.

We may have a period of name squatting.

Apr 09, 2018 21:12

Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)

May I ask why you'd like this? Right now we can cross check digital identities between dApps. Those who would like privacy can spin up another address, but those who want to build a digital identity can do so with the same public address everywhere. The address is on the chain...

I assume the issue is signing up for Peepeth with an address that you don’t want to link to other activity. This will be resolved when the front end allows moving addresses.

There is a future feature to move identity to a different address. (It is in the smart contract but not in the front end).

I think there should be a cost to going over some length - that should be captured by the Peepeth platform. There should be *some* cost to flooding Peeples feed. Right now that cost is basically manual effort on Twitter. Here @Bevan is free to experiment with different approaches

I like the idea of a cost to going over a soft character limit.

The great thing about a brand new world is that there are lots of opportunities to experiment.

The issue I see with this is that with every additional import on another device, you are adding a little more risk of being hacked/being exploited/doing something essentially wrong. I think there needs to be a better solution for this further down the road.

Eventually key management will be part of the OS.

In software wallets only keep a small amount of funds/tokens. There is risk with each app, only use ones you trust and have triple checked.

The most valuable item in my software wallet is my peepeth and Toshi identities.
