Almost every day I see something new around here. Today I have heard about free Peeping. Thank you so much Peepeth team🙏
The Peepeth team is just @bevan as far as I know.
The rest of us are peepers.

It’s so cool. Now we need 💯th peep too. @bevan.

Hello top peepers! Do you know any charities that accept crypto or want to start? Asking for www.seedom.io ethereum dapp @abcoathup @bevan @jvck @callmegwei @pluma @wgmeets @lion @shigako @pyroisntfire @hannah
I think you may have to teach them how to accept and how to use it.

I'm slow on the uptake sometimes. I just noticed that the beak of the Peepeth mascot has the whole ETH thing going on. I wonder what else in my world I'm oblivious to!
It took me ages to notice too. Plus the default avatar is part of the beak. Mind blown.
It’s a reminder to stop and take in the details (hence some of my photo walks).

What’s up everyone, what’s the plan with this 🧐
Abstract blockchain transaction fees and key management in a native mobile app so anyone can use it for unstoppable microblogging. (That’s my thoughts but @bevan is the creator/developer).

ptdr donc là je suis tout seul et personne qui peut me censurer ? J’adore, je vais pouvoir dire beaucoup de choses
Unstoppable microblogging. Though I have to use google translate as my French isn’t good enough.

I need to peep more :)
Just keep peeping.
@bevan has set the threshold at 100 peeps for now.
How long before @jvck is peep leader?

So it would be great to understand how it's gas free now? Is that using a new way of using the chain and posting? I'm liking the free aspect though
Gas free when you get to 100 peeps (for now).

Goodevening Peeps! Did I read "free peeping" somewhere? lolz. Need to know more. Sounds good but what about censorship issues etc?
You can peep directly to IPFS and the smart contract so you can’t be blocked/censored by any front end (though a front end may hide your peep when displaying to their users.)

Now that #Peepeth is going free to peep while retaining censorship resistance, I am curious what the plan is for decentralizing the interface?
You could build your own front end.

@bevan Is it correct that GAS will not be consumed as soon as I have > 100 peeps?
Yes!!

Is this official ? But why
It’s official. User pays transaction fees blocks peepers from peeping. More explanation in my medium article https://medium.com/@abcoathup/evolution-of-decentralised-social-media-dfe567d23e54?source=linkShare-3b0c0066557a-1527628046

It looks interesting, thanks for the link!
For elections (rather than fun polls) then you want to vote to a public blockchain (could use a side chain). For fun polls batching works. Saving votes in public e.g. IPFS reduces some of the trust required in the dApp.

So with this new free peep model...how did this happen? My understanding is that saving things/verifying transactions on the blockchain will always require users to pay gas. How did we just overcome this obstacle? And do you think other dapps will start to do the same?
My medium article (hopefully) explains.

We were paying to submit our own batches. Now @bevan pays to submit batches of everyone’s signed peeps/(batches).
Any dApp where batching suits their model can use this.
Replying to @mmurthy (0x6499dc30d6178413e3812e35af0b5b8116966041)
Agree, batching is the way to go. I can think of ways to batch votes as well. Curious, as far as trust is concerned, am I not trusting peepeth to submit my txns? How is that different?
We are trusting Peepeth front end to include our peeps in its batches.
A responder to my medium article suggested https://github.com/orbitdb/ipfs-log
I need to look into this but could be great for voting (@bob). The dApp could just save the results and single IPFS hash.

@abcoathup How to access peepeth with alternative interface (via API or IPFS?)
First add peep (JSON) to IPFS and then post to the smart contract using UdApp to peep not via the Peepeth dApp https://kumavis.github.io/udapp (using the ABI and contract address from https://peepeth.com/front_end).

I am interested in that, too! Is at a feature of this particular front-end?
It’s a front end feature.
The next question, what about Spam you say? Free peeping is courtesy of the front end. Which means it can be taken away. Spammers can still pay to peep direct. (Even their own batches, but then that is even easier to filter/hide).

I recommend @abcoathup's writeup (he came up with the idea). Also, check out https://peepeth.com/help/signing. Basically, actions are now signed, guaranteeing authorship. Peepeth then batches those actions periodically, and saves them to the blockchain.
Yay. It’s public. I am so excited for this.
This unleashes the peeps. No more gas blockers to peeping. Also makes other front ends more viable.

@Bevan, @abcoathup, do you think there will come a time when it costs money to store data on ipfs?
Yes. You will either need to host your own node with your content or pay someone to pin your data. Currently the good folks at Infura provide the nodes.

Just saw Peepeth submits txns on your behalf, awesome! I had written an article few weeks ago how to do it: https://medium.com/zastrin/how-to-save-your-ethereum-dapp-users-from-paying-gas-for-transactions-abd72f15e14d. What technique does peepeth use @bevan?
I read your article when I was looking at what voting solutions were out there.
Batching is the solution, otherwise the dApp is paying the same costs as the user and in the current gas market 😢
Though you have to trust the dApp to submit your vote. So only works for fun polls

Let thousands of front ends work with the same data in myriad ways. Let users have a choice of how to interact with all that information. They don't need a nanny state - they need alternatives to internet monopolies that have moats because of siloed data and network effects.
I want an Instagram version of Peepeth.
Meaning I want to use the same data but filter for peeps with photos and their replies and repeeps.

The game changer is that Peepeth batches peeps. Meaning that cost of saving to the blockchain doesn’t increase as volume of peeps increases. Also that peeps can get to the blockchain faster for other clients.

This would be a very cool documentary as well, but I'm not sure it would drive home the full idea about why or how blockchain can really change the world. For that, "regular" people seeing other "regular" people using the tech or needing the tech would be better, imho.

Oh, that's no big deal... they'll just remove the spam from the back end... ... wait ... 🤔 ...
Front ends will have to filter out spam.
Posting directly to the smart contract/IPFS just requires a blockchain transaction fee, so as the blockchain transaction fee gets smaller, the ROI for spammers improves.
