Ngl, I don't really want to pay for social media when there are so many free options
Someone has to pay for every service. On a “free” service you need to look at who is paying and what it costs you.
Peepeth you pay blockchain miners to validate your transaction. The peepeth front end is “free” paid by tip percentages and verification fees. Your data is public

It feels so unnatural not to be able to fave replies. Should I start doling out $0.01 tips like "hey I saw that; here's a positive interaction"? Or should I just embrace that the norms here will be different from 1:1 Twitter clones
You can give your Ensō, you can tip (minimum tip and a percentage goes to support running the platform) or you can reply with #lkie (blame me for that) or you could peep your own hashtag or peep a picture of a flower or create a token and give that. It’s a new world.

If twitter used an immutable public blockchain, then how would they inject advertising (their revenue stream)? You can just use the version of twitter the other guy made that just goes right to the blockchain, no ads needed.
Exactly. Don’t like the peepeth front end. Use/create a different one. If you don’t like the monetisation, you can swap front ends.

Once you are done with CryptoZombies, this is my recommendation of what to do next.

Doing cryptozombies today. Definitely lives up to its reputation! I recommend it for any full stack developer.

that is fair but still now your identity is no longer also being taken by twitter, and being analyzed for targeted ads
Your peeps can be seen by mainstream media, political parties, advertisers and your mother. Your peeps are public.

@Bevan why don't we get a telegram chat going while we're waiting on dms? we can get a good community member to set it up, or I can if you want.
You can use #Toshi messaging or Twitter DMs in the interim. The issue with telegram is that some of the nice discourse could move to there.

Are there any tools/apis I can use to integrate #peepeth into my #dapp? Similar to the tweet now button?
Not that I know of.
Currently it is peepeth front end or interact with IPFS/Smart contract with nothing in between.
Add the suggestion to feedback (bottom right on mobile)

Based on the documentation, data is stored in IPFS and only a hash is stored on the blockchain - https://peepeth.com/how. Blockchain is not a good data storage - it's inefficient and expensive and doesn't scale yet.
Stateless contracts, plus batching means that peepeth is cheap before adding any scaling.
Replying to @clehene (0x95d5f8e8dc9b1392557cb04cc7b9dacdf30c97e4)
Is batching not an option anymore? I seem to get a transaction prompt on every peep and it doesn't get posted unless I pay for each one.
You need to sign in for batches.
Click your profile pic top right and sign the message.

Replies are posted as quote-tweets?! Or quote-peeps I guess
Replies are currently shown that way. My preference is for replies to not show similar to quoted repeeps.

couldn't that be accomplished with just IPFS, no blockchain needed?
Signing proves who peeped (though we could just sign peeps). On-chain also provides link to IPFS acting as a database.

What are we at now? Any easy way to check our current strength?
Stats of peepers and number of peeps.
The number of peeps is the more important metric in my opinion. Should break 10,000 soon.

Think of the IPFS is just a temporary holding area, eventually everything (in batches of 15) gets written to the blockchain -- hence the need for gas.
Peeps are stored in IPFS (single and batches). The hash is stored as transaction input onchain.

April 23rd was my guess.

Are there any IPFS large scale storage platforms up and running yet (like Filecoin)? I'm fascinated by where the storage comes from to underpin the system.
Infura (ConsenSys) run IPFS nodes.

I have mostly stopped tweeting and just peep.

Hmmm.... A #peep used to be a person, now it's a post. #peeple are the people who #peep. So what is singular of #peeple? A #peeper?
I use peeper/peepers. @callmegwei uses peeple. I don’t know the singular.

Hot off the press: Story about that time I got in a traffic accident in China. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLofpCy3fpM&feature=youtu.be
Wow. I didn’t know that about China’s legal system.
Great story. Sorry about your knee.

crazy how all the big tech comps have closed the faucets to their data in the past few years. i've been trying to gather data from social media sites for academic research it's been such a pain to do!
Peeps are all public e.g. on-chain/IPFS. Unstoppable research.

Peepethsphere, @flex has an SLA 3D printer (Formlabs Form 1+) that I picked up for a steal on impulse at a police auction. Might use it for a crypto project where we allow people to pay for prints in ETH, but for now we're taking suggestions on what to print, give us some inspo.
Physical tokens?
I won’t be eating bacon in France then.
Being able to put a tag or a name against the wallet would be great.

I think as the platform scales it will become more relevant. Right now I am only on the "New" tab. There is such an influx of new peeple I have never encountered before; I don't want to miss the opportunity to meet a cool new person.
I use New mostly as definitely don’t want to miss out on new peepers. Though I check friends as that is easier to catch up on overnights.

There is no delete. All peeps are public.

Plus future employers, partners, grand kids, mainstream media, political parties, advertisers and your mother.
Peep responsibly and check for typos.

we don't have likes here we have escrows and I assume that the procedure will take anywhere from 15 seconds to a couple minutes because we're inconsistant
You can use the hashtag #lkie in a reply. Ensō you get one a day. Or you can tip.

Still trying to understand the economic mechanisms in play here.
Current monetisation for @bevan is percentage of tips and validation fees.
There could be a merch store.
Any suggested monetisation put in the feedback.

So I assume invites are just handed out, right? If so, what's the point of making a invite system in the first place? 🤔
I assume it is a safety mechanism to control the flow of signups. If 10,000 show up in a day, you could approve signups in a controlled manner. Especially if any unexpected issues crop up.
