In your own work and lives, where do you think DLT, ETH, et al, will succeed first? What are your uses? In-game value (*Kitties)? Peepeth-like services and products? "Real money" in Enterprise/FinTech? Do your Normal friends get it? At all? What would make it useful to them?
My own uses are primarily in-game value, Peepeth, and as a distant third, actual payments.

I believe it is currently succeeding in behind-the-scenes enterprise deployments by being integrated into existing systems to provide better auditability. Continued rollouts of this type will probably be the leading use for some time.
Ripple is showing steady growth in transactions. It already far exceeds Bitcoin on a daily basis, but I've never known a single person who uses it. Does anyone know what this usage consists of?

Yeah still jet-lagged, having taken the red-eye back here. But did a lot of frisbee today so that exercise should get me back in a reasonable time zone. Thanks for asking!
I hate taking red-eye flights, but interestingly they are the form of flight that exposes you to the least amount of cosmic radiation.

A little while ago I was organizing old files and I opened some ancient source code that I couldn't recognize. I saw some of the worst code I've ever seen. Horrible structure and every variable named with some random vulgarity. After reading through it for a few minutes...
I still couldn't recall where it came from or who sent it to me. After a few more minutes of trying to figure out what the code did I slowly remembered. I was responsible for this abomination. It was something I had written 15+ years prior when I had first started programming. π€―

Wouldn't a delete option be the same as selective saving? If I delete the posts I don't want to save, it would be similar to only saving the posts i wanted to.
An option to delete would be very similar to a selective save. The difference is primarily in the interface. Delete is an action on a single post. Selective save defines actions on a collection of posts.

Redwoods and ferns.
Redwood trees are rather remarkable. In the more ancient forests the dense canopy creates unique ecosystems which are largely hidden since they are so inaccessible.

Wouldn't other front ends be similar to this one in that it is a current post viewer with an ability to save the post locations to the contract? Isn't the ability of this front end to see all posts because they were made here rather than pulling from ipfs?
You're correct on current functionality. I'm speaking more of future functionality that was discussed but isn't implemented.
Peepeth could end up being a standardized protocol eventually. If that was the case, only blockchain saved actions are visible to all clients.

Selective active saving to the blockchain was another feature that was mentioned a while ago. Actions should be encouraged to be saved to the blockchain though. That's the only way to keep the entire project decentralized.
If alternate frontends are developed, only actions which are saved to the blockchain would be visible.

If offering an ability to edit, why not offer an option to save to the blockchain rather than make it a requirement? Peepeth states it's meant to be an uncensorable alternative to Twitter. Having the option to lock in, rather than requiring it, provides that

@CallMeGwei There should be no delete button. If people dont like the idea of sucking up to there mistakes they are not meant to be on a platform that can be openly respected. This is about being real about yourself online and approaching mistakes that people will inevitably make
I believe there should be a edit and delete buttons that only work before actions are committed to the blockchain.

So how are my tech people feeling about the Microsoft acquisition of GitHub?
I'm concerned Microsoft will try to turn Github into some integrated abomination. If that happens, a mass exodus will happen quickly. Git is inherently decentralized, after all.

2/ Bitcoin rebranded and repurposed itself to focus on its store of value use case, at the expense of many other use cases. Time will tell if that was the right call. I don't see Ethereum making the same mistake if meaningful competition emerges.
It's also worth noting that Bitcoin has plans for smart contracts using the Simplicity language. However, this could still be years away, and they are already years behind Ethereum.

I can see this for the user interaction aspect. Using whatever token to interact with dApps seems like a no brainer if there are markets for them all... But for data storage, it seems that the chain matters. If I want something to be immutable, where it is stored matters to me.
The developer must ultimately decide which chains are available within their ecosystem. For the end user, it would likely be invisible or limited to a simple setting, such as a cost/persistence slider.

We have too many Crypto Platforms to develop Dapps which one do you think will sustain on long run... many will wither away as time passes by
I'm in the camp that believes that cross-chain technology will eventually lead to dApps which do not rely on a single blockchain ecosystem.

I recommend @abcoathup's writeup (he came up with the idea). Also, check out https://peepeth.com/help/signing. Basically, actions are now signed, guaranteeing authorship. Peepeth then batches those actions periodically, and saves them to the blockchain.
Excellent feature. This well help greatly since the gas cost was entering prohibitive levels.
However, a small part of me will miss the old method. I hope this doesn't entice to many spammers.

I don't see any reason why Peepeth has to be exclusively linked to Ethereum. It could also be on EOS and Cardano someday.
Peepeth would still work as a name though. I like "Peep" better, but all the good domains for that are taken. π

Good to know someone is working on one. However, the completely free aspect could lead to endless spamming.
It is completely possible for any of these to eventually become cross-chain platforms. Eventually, the user experience will be transparent enough that it doesn't matter.
