Hopefully there'll be a better hands-on way of entering the blockchain world. Maybe if Candy Crush gets tradable gold bars?
Back in 2012, fake "gold" money and "real money" auction houses were added to the Diablo 3 video game. In 2014 they shut down both of them stating that they felt it damaged the game.

There are several cryptocurrencies which are attempting to penetrate the game market. I'm not sure how successful they have been thus far. I'm aware of some new major investments in crypto backed games, but it's still a way off.

The east bay has some cool neighborhoods and a lot of good eateries; what kind of food do you like? My favorite part of the east bay (you guessed it) is the long ridge of hills / parks running north-south. There are all kinds of gems scattered about, though.
I lived in Oakland for a while. The Easy Bay is strange in that its very high contrast due to wealth entering the region. New developments sprout up right in the middle of large underdeveloped areas.

Primarily usability issues coupled with a high barrier to entry. Mainstream crypto usage is non-existent. This is a foreign concept, and most people are not willing to go through all the hassle just to use them.
Most people, including tech people, still do not understand the revolutionary concepts brought about by blockchain technology. Financial gain is their own motivator to pay any attention. This is directly observable: Most users buy cryptocurrency on an exchange and leave it there.

What is Peepeth's general sentiment about this? Positive? Negative?
Positive. Websites are too prone to phishing. Glad the functionality is being kept in the desktop app though. Convenience coupled with advanced features are the reason why some of us keep using MEW.

A stupid decision on the behalf of those holding the vote, but only the Ethereum blockchain is to blame for congestion. If any single entity can clog the blockchain, there is a glaring problem. ICOs clogged it, Cryptokitties clogged it, EtherShrimpFarm clogged it.

Awesome. Thanks @jm9k and @CallMeGwei. Currently it's just on S3 static hosting (so I'm not sure if I can add HTTPS? my understanding is that I need access to the server) However, I am looking to make a more comprehensive solution with a custom coded CMS, so I'll def. add it.
CloudFlare will work with S3 hosting. I have several domains setup with that right now. Once you move to a custom CMS, CloudFlare will still work, but you can also use Let's Encrypt, and possibly the AWS Certificate Manager.

I read a little closer and EV code signing certificates are different than EV SSL certificates. Same process and certificate authorities though. They just found another thing to charge money for. π

CloudFlare.com also gives free https to all domains by default. This includes the CloudFlare free plan. It is less secure than Let's Encrypt, but you don't even have to do any server or certificate configuration at all.

I remember the days in 90's when there was huge resistance for Internet and its adoption... now we cant live without Internet
There are still some industries that the Internet has failed to make a significant disruption. The clothing industry is a good example, for obvious reasons. They keep trying though. Eventually one of them is going to crack it.

The success of Stellar is dependent on how they execute in gaining listener adoption. I believe their focus is the South Korean demographic. Internationalized or not, if they capture a good chunk of market share they will be in a good position.

The success of Stellar Lumens is more dependent on how they execute in gaining adoption. I believe their focus is the third world. Decentralized or not, if they capture a good chunk of market share they will be in a good position.

There have been some public exploratory grants, but it seems is mostly small potatoes at this point. Some industry experts are predicting a downpour of funding eventually. The EU is supposedly earmarking β¬30 billion to a blockchain research fund.

I believe it's mostly private funding at this point. It's not always philanthropic though. Foundations, such as the Ethereum Foundation and EOS Foundation, provide grants to developers to help build their respective ecosystems.

Two years down the line, there'll be chains _with_ this modification that are still viable attack targets. This rabbit hole goes on forever. #PoW only works for chains that can maintain (an overwhelming) monopoly on their particular "work" algorithm.
Right now there is a sweet spot for PoW coins that are large enough to be a target, but small enough to attack. I see the ZenCash delayed block penalties to be a very beneficial proposal, but the devil is always in the details, buried deep in the implementation.

From a hash grinder's perspective, what they do is exchange electricity (sic!) for krypto-currency. (Disagree? Venezuela!) All this elbow-wrangling value talk about decentralisation is irrelevant, or at best a consolation while we burn everything to the ground.
The recent ASIC debates I've participated with over the past few weeks have challenged me to think about PoW in new ways. Even though there are still a lot of possible directions for PoW to explore, the possibility of PoS is starting to look more attractive.

The reality is that Nakamoto consensus did consider the availability of rentable hashing power. Services like NiceHash generally are not cost-effective to buy hashing power. They are an unintuitive manifestation.

Yes, services like Nicehash where large amounts of hashing power are available on demand are a potential threat to smaller cryptocurrencies. As seen on https://www.crypto51.app, the cost of a 51% attack is so low that many coins are vulnerable, including some of the larger coins.

I don't expect we will ever see true consensus among approaches. Different use cases require different avenues of approach. There will be consolidation, but the current tech is still evolving too rapidly to give clear indication of which way it will go in the long term.

I'm aware of several projects that are quietly rolling out to enterprise operations. They're both clunky and extremely expensive. Most businesses still don't fully comprehend what DLT can do for them, or how to use it. Neither do most tech people who are not directly involved.

To make DLT useful to the everyday person it must be just as easy to use as the alternatives and show clear advantages. For cryptocurrencies to be successful both ease of use and wide acceptance are necessary. The current generation of tech is still working towards those goals.

No, my "normal" friends don't get it at all. They don't care or believe in it. The potential as a high return speculative investment is their only use case.
