IDK if anyone cares about why or how I travel, but the primary motivation is challenge and I raise the challenge by doing my best to live like a local. - Rarely if ever doing tourist stuff - Shopping at supermarkets and eating cheaply - Renting apartments or living with friends - Making a genuine effort to learn the language and customs - (Probably most important) working

The first 2 help me keep costs down (also, cooking @ home helps me learn local cooking). I'm def not saying anyone gets rich by saving money but it's basic economics, the lower you keep costs the more runway you have.

It also helps me appreciate the 'small stuff'. Visiting supermarket is always interesting, you really see what the local people prioritise.

Very much so. I haven't been out as much as most of my peers expect, though. To me that's part and parcel of remote work.

It is quite the shame, heh? At the same time, when you have been walking a thin line for a while, any incident will leave you broken. Binance knew a hack would happen sooner or later. They came prepared. Cryptopia didn't...or couldn't?

many factors. underprepared for growth and management personality conflicts that they didn't know how to handle is how I chalk it up. but i'll never know cause i didn't grow it from square one.

When I remind myself that I'm not seperate to but a part of the environment, that trips me out as well. Like, compared to the scale of most objects, a 75 kilo animal (me) is a lot. And the fact that nearly everything in the world is designed for me and people like me. Weird, but also gratitude-inspiring.

To be born at a time in history where everything accommodates us & death is so uncommon we can live like it won't happen... this is a really weird time to be alive.

Occasionally when I eat I'm awestruck by just how much labor it takes to go on surviving. Especially in the case that I'm eating a bunch of foods from different sources. The sheer amount of labor (or in the case of meat/fish, years of maturing) that came together to make this meal happen. And it only helps me stay alive for what, 3 days? Certainly not enough to maintain me for more than a day.

Designers matter. Customer service teams are the voice of the product. Need to look after them well.

Absolutely. My point was that one moat is probably not so much larger than any other in the space. And that the term "best" seems problematic to me. There are many metrics - so further qualification would lend a lot of clarity to the statement. The "best *brand*" - as you clarified later - is hardly disputable. Other metrics are much more so. I wasn't trying to be confrontational or anything, just chiming in with my own perspective of the space. Not any more right or wrong than anyone else's.

I didn't read it as controversial. I enjoy hearing different opinions.

Great idea, good to see an argument for raising wages beyond the typical envy-driven "rah rah executives are greedy" posts.

Is anyone really surprised that when you pay people more, incentivise them to share in profits, and give them the time and money to improve their health/relationships/etc, that they work harder & produce better results?

I totally agree. Unbelievable that the U.S. is the only one not attending/endorsing the agreement. This WON'T make us more secure, it'll just erode people's privacy & autonomy further.

#PHOTOWALK as much as I hate centralised social media and how it watches us and now Facebook knows my face, knows that I'm living in Sicily, and has likely linked me to my various shadow-profiles..... I had to cave in and get Instagram at some point. Set a poll earlier in the day at a hat shop, my friends voted on which one to get, and now I have a hat

I see what you did there ;)

But yeah... saying this quietly, I can't help but compare how Binance has reacted to their hack to my former employer Cryptopia. Binance has had a loss an order of magnitude higher, yet when it happened they were fully transparent and did all they could to include the community and take ownership. Cryptopia have just gone into liquidation, laying off most of my old coworkers since Feb.

Abundance is the word, Scarcity is a lie. You rock! :)

Mmh, that's a tricky one, isn't it? I definitely want things that are scarce more than abundant things. I legitimately enjoy & find more useful expensive things than cheap things, even if they're objectively similar quality. Part of the reason I like Peepeth is that I can spend $ETH.

But at the same time, the more you give the more you seem to get.

My justification now is that if it all fails at least I made a tool
