I'm going to have to disagree with the implicit notion that a decentralized, public, general purpose computing chain is altogether simpler to disrupt than a currency-only chain. What would force a disruption with a global virtual machine? The obvious answers: network metrics... such as capacity, throughput, distributed-ness, and adoption. What could lead to a disruption of a virtual currency only chain? Inflation rates are not immune, there could be a lower inflation offering. Scarcity could be undermined with a more scare offering. /1

One can fork ETH just as easily as one can fork BTC, too...

The best tech will continually attract more mind-share and human interest... as has always happened on long time horizons. Why would currency be an exception to that relentless trend? IMHO: either Bitcoin will iterate to become cheaper to secure and transact with and/or more general purpose... or it will slowly cede relevance in our lifetimes to the public virtual machine platforms it inspired. No one in the space is safe from innovation or technical progress. I wouldn't ever bet on anything that entertained the idea that it could be. /4

Each to their own. I'm not particularly clued up on how mining and distribution works for the various cryptos. The reason I say Bitcoin is more decentralised is precisely because it's harder to control than Ethereum - ETH was pre-mined, had a rollback after the DAO hack, etc. I think both BTC and ETH serve good roles today. Both do things that the other doesn't. BTC for uncensorable txes, ETH for advanced txes.

I think Keybase is moving in the right direction in a lot of ways. File sharing with people you don't know many details of is amazing... open your file browser open up a folder with their username and your username and you're done. Not having to share email or phone number to exchange information is a game changer. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Absolutely!

How to be a man is an interesting question. Kind of a subset of the more general “how to live?”, which, as someone peeped recently, “is _the_ question”.

I think it's a very underrated question - how to be a woman as well. Or even just how to be a human in today's world. We're not made to sit and stare at LCD screens all day, that's for sure (I type, ironically, from a computer screen that I use at a far higher % of time than the average person)

The best for what? Bitcoin isn't powering this novel social platform you're on now (though with anchoring it could sorta do it)... It doesn't allow you to compute on it, so it's de-facto not the best for computing. It's the best at a narrative of a fixed supply in a world of inflationary assets. That has its own drawbacks too, though they're quite a few decades away from being pressing. Bitcoin is not the best at furthering creativity, innovation, or ambitious technological and societal changes. Time will tell if it's the best at mimicking gold.

I agree with @WillWalker, I recommend everyone I know to get into Bitcoin, but only others like Ethereum if they have a stronger risk appetite.

IMO Ethereum could be disrupted by other smart contract platforms. But Bitcoin has the best decentralisation, the most history, the best brand, and arguably the best developers.

Especially when it comes to the importance of taking up responsibility, being accountable, being honest, and facing danger (danger some people would say is unnecessary to face) - it's what creates meaning.

You don't think customer service is a marketable skill? 😆

Yeah dude if you want to work in crypto customer support is a great place to start out. There's a pretty steep learning curve but because of that crypto CS agents are generally paid higher than other helpdesk roles.

One of the coolest things about this article is how the author raises attention to the fact that when you get old you don't magically lose your ambition or passion or whatever else. In fact you love and dream just as fiercely as a young person. I've certainly noticed this with the old people I've spent a lot of time with, like my grandparents...
