Thanks to my bank locking me out I now: - Was forced to take out money from another account. It was set aside for my health insurance payment today, and by tomorrow I will be without cover. - Cannot afford any other transport than airport bus (which I only JUST have enough for...) - Will have to wait 5 hours for that (thank god I booked a late flight) - Have no means of getting water or food for the interim 🤣

Locked out of my bank yet again for logging in from a "suspicious location". As a result, could not buy euros at a fair rate and was charged a fresh $5 for a "foriegn withdrawal" To think that I come from one of the wealthiest per capita countries on earth, with some of the best banks, and still have to deal with this. What fresh hell do Nepali, Nigerians, and Peruvians have to deal with? Once you go crypto...

Overdraft fees don't exist in crypto.

There's no restrictions on holding one type of currency for investment vs. daily spending.

Lockouts don't exist.

You choose your exchange rates. No forced fees.

We got a good social network here on Peepeth. I love how people listen to each other, hedge what they say, and react like real people.

The realest social network there is, as I see it.

The question is, how do we keep it real and full of real people?

I liked hearing "Read history as a perpetrator not as a victim or a hero" said by Jordan B Peterson. Because it's true. Every one of us (or people like us) has created history. Our history is us.

And then the whales will dump it on their FOMO heads and we've been seeing this happening several times so far. The rich are getting richer because they can afford to wait. The poor will always try to take a shortcut out of poverty. To me, the idea of universal income is 🤘.

It's a sort of "We are not as Facebook but in the end we are". Topics on my feed are unuseful, a "bla bla bla" chat we could have in a pub.

Agree with all of that.

I've been giving Twitter another shot recently due to the potential for marketability. It definitely hasn't improved my life. It takes a huge amount of time, and there are a lot of straight up insane people on there. It's rather unpleasant. It's purely a work effort for me.

Succeeding at Twitter (or any form of microblogging) seems to be about having a few ideas and finding a way to repeat them many times, in slightly different ways. That sounds shallow but imo it's the opposite - by committing yourself to a particular set of opinions you're helping other people make their own.

I use LinkedIn only as a professional contact list. No interaction on the feed (I find the posts there so boring and sterile).

Sterile, exactly. And a little manipulative. I still think it has potential, but I wish there was a version where people were held accountable for what they posted, claimed, or messaged to others.

Me too. It's common to pin oneself to a single side of any number of dichotomies. Sometimes it's warranted. But a lot of time, I think there's a process we can undertake to cross to the other side. For example, to become more extraverted, hard-working, big-picture focused or detail-oriented, adventurous or conservative. A lot of it is momentum.

I do agree re. momentum, but I think we do have natural tendencies. Better than trying to change your brain is to embrace it and find other people who can balance you out.

I'm considering re-quitting most forms of social media. The life benefit I'm getting from them is fairly neutral. Think I will do a 30 day holiday from LinkedIn and see if it has any negative affect on my life. Professionally wise most of the real smart/entrepreneurial folks I know don't spend time on it... it's similar to Twitter, there's a lot of poseurs.

Email is where the real game is.

The #1 tip for making solid friends and/or getting GRAND favours while travelling (i.e. free accom, food, cross-country roadtrips): bring gifts The #1 tip for not feeling lonely or homesick: periodically, even mechanically, tell your loved ones what you like and appreciate about them With both the key is giving something you yourself would like to hear or something you genuinely think they would like.

And with gifts I find there's 2 classes of gifts that people love:

1. Postcards and small decorations from your home country or places you travel
2. VERY nice clothes from your home country or places you travel

The key with either is finding quality. You wanna get some kind of farmer's market mini canvas piece, or some wooden spoon made of a wood native to some country, or socks made of alpaca/goat/sheep wool, etc.

#unpopularopinion Science has done nothing to improve humanitarianism. It has improved quality of life, but it could be argued that our humanitarianism is actually decreasing. Science so far has been a short term fix. We treat each other the same we did 10,000 years ago.

Unpopular opinion for sure. I disagree. Yes today we still have the capacity to kill, torture, rape, dehumanise, genocide - but so did our ancestors, and they were much more prone to it. If anything we live a little disconnected and unevolved for our current world... but we aren't worse people. Society has progressed.

Protip: a litre of full fat milk filled with oats is a very cheap and filling protein shake to bring to the gym. Related caveat: a litre of full fat milk filled with oats will destroy any further appetite you have for meals in the next 6 hours. *This is not good if you are living with tremendous cooks (read: italians) and cannot eat their food.*

Aside: confirming further my conclusion that every phrase in Italian can be either directly translated or mispronounced as a sexual statement (e.g. lavaro duro" mispronounced as "lei voule duro") is the fact that the word for gym gainz is pompa (pump). Which is also used in Italian to mean another action unrelated to muscle growth. I will leave that to your imagination.

I find I can get bogged down in details easily and lose track of the big picture. I'm working on balancing this because being able to see the big-picture constantly is useful for orchestrating and persuading other people.
