Oh hon, thank you so much! I'm humbled... I don't know what to say!
Lester Holt intentionally misled people, by presenting Alex Jones' words as a "call to action." This is a complete miscarriage of journalistic integrity.

Absolutely! Hey, keep me up to date if you need a beta tester or anything. Love to kick the wheels on some new tech!
Right now the project is a bunch of disorganized code spread across my desktop, laptop, a housemate's computer, and a couple Raspberry Pi's; once I get past prototyping, though, I'll definitely keep you in mind <3
I wish I were in a position to tip some people, like @bevan.
Unfortunately, I currently have 0.006 ETH to my name. I'm thankful for Enzõ, though; each day it lets me promote a peep I think should be immortalized. I'm also thankful that Peepeth covers my gas for peeps now.

Wise words indeed. Wonder if he even could have envisioned multi-national corporations and the revolving doors of governments/bankers. Your last line is so very true.
Financial systems aren't the only thing that can be revolutionized by blockchains. I have a passion project going in the background, for example, in designing decentralized systems for medical records -- putting that data back in the individual's control.

This is why I’m so obsessed with the US “#Brexit-ing” from the FED. It’s sick. Dr. Ron Paul has been right since day one. If we want to end globalism....follow the money to its root, and pull the root like a garden weed. Watch us flourish! Great share! @fulcrum 🙏❤️🇺🇸
Thomas Jefferson described central banking as an "engine for speculation, financial manipulation, and corruption", and his words were as ever prescient.
Blockchains are a step in the right direction.

Peep peep 🐣
Welcome to Peepeth. I do hope you love it here; so many of us already do.
The sexual abuse scandal in Pennsylvania has made it to the news. My research just had 1300 more pages added to it...

Where did the phrase "goody two shoes" come from? Was there a time during which people of dubious moral fiber only wore one shoe?
It comes from a book published in 1765, _The Tale of Little Goody Two-Shoes_. It was essentially a Christian-morals re-telling of the classic Cinderella story.

That's a sad tale, indeed. :-( Being a programmer and a writer is a powerful combination. Using your mastery of those languages can literally change the world. A world where your story doesn't repeat would be a fantastic improvement.
I say these things not to spin a sad tale; I apologise if it comes across as such. I see it as a tale of fortitude, endurance. I won't give up; not because I think I can make the world a better place, but rather because I know that strength can be contagious.

In my view, your neighbors should be your family. Voluntarily. Something has made that way less common in the modern world, and that's a shame. I think empathy/wanting to help is a natural thing - how does it erode even in a rich country? I have ideas, but I'll just keep them.
I was a programmer before illness left me with nothing. My politics and opinions made me unwelcome in the Silicon Valley; when it came to a point where I needed neighbors, I had none.

Like, how did you uncover the story about the Mexican city without a government? Are you a freelance writer or do you just pick up things that interest you and go with that... Re: homeless + cancer. Not too many countries those go together so often as the USA... am I right? :-(
I came across Cherán entirely by chance, like so many other things in my life. Someone mentioned a city in Michoacán that had solved their cartel problem, and I just kept digging.
As for your second comment -- it has more to do with lacking family, than the US.

Avoiding conflict is completely understandable. You weren't wrong to mute anyone. 100% your call! I was just hoping to see more of that dialogue. To learn. Not at the expense of causing you undue stress, of course. Now - what can you teach me today? Are you a writer by trade?
A writer by trade? I never thought of it like that.
I became homeless while I had cancer, a number of years back; my writing, presented in blogs or video essays on YouTube, became a means to survive.

If nobody valued you, why should anybody step in to 'save you' from missing voyager's content? About the mute: I am sure everybody agrees that in the end of the day, you are the master of your mute list. Use it as you see fit.
I apologise; if they were stepping in to 'save me' from missing his content, I couldn't see it like that before you presented it as such.
I have rarely in my life been welcome; my family disowned me at a very young age. Thank you for helping me see it in another light.

Your tense conversation actually taught me a lot. Maybe I'm being selfish in wanting to see you two chatting again! I just hate to see conversation result in mutes (vs rapid link posting - which isn't ideological muting as much as /volume/ muting). You're pretty great in my book
Thank you. But my muting voyager was not ideological. I saw someone that gave me the impression they were judging another ideologically, and when communication was summarily dismissed without understanding what was being said, I moved to avoid conflict.
Replying to @balresch (0xd6d48727d8835b73f8dc511a5baaf3445a6f65c9)
I don't get that. Doesn't it tell you that both you and voyager seem to be valued by the community?
It certainly tells me that voyager is a valued member of the community -- but not that I am. It has distinctly given me the impression that choosing to temporarily mute for the purposes of avoiding stress and conflict will be looked down upon.
Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)
I didn't mute @ChiliMac in the end! I just wanted to for a second because I was being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of posts with links. Turned out that we had a really interesting conversation. I would have completely missed out.
I didn't say you did mute him. I said you and others leveled no judgement on those who wished to mute him. And yet, I, the newbie, the outsider, am judged for doing so and considering the implications of doing so aloud.
Replying to @balresch (0xd6d48727d8835b73f8dc511a5baaf3445a6f65c9)
That should tell you something :)
The only thing it tells me is that I am an outsider, and will be judged hypocritically by the community that exists here.
Replying to @abcoathup (0x13ebd3443fa5575f0eb173e323d8419f7452cfb1)
You have been engaging with the community and adding positive contributions rather than just shouting into the space. Muting a community member who has made great contributions to story telling here would be your loss and hoping you can take a break and not miss that opportunity.
My introduction to the person I muted -- temporarily, I again clarify -- did not give me the impression that he had great contributions to offer. It gave me the impression he had only interest in insulting another and asserting superiority.
Replying to @CallMeGwei (0x285bc660aa42b8effc6c60357cd4d8ca072be625)
Sometimes, when we're trying to understand something deeply - it takes time to process and unpack what we thought we knew and compare it to what we've just seen. Just a suggestion, and none of my business, but maybe pause a day before muting. Give people a chance to steep a bit?
I find this very strange. No one is suggesting others "pause a day" before muting @ChiliMac; and yet, you and another have made the same suggestion of me for the very act of considering the implications of my muting @voyager temporarily.
I've moved my article regarding Mike Cernovich's deplatforming and the precedent set by Marsh v Alabama to my website; a lot of the arguments made in it are just as applicable now, as they were then.
https://sevvie.ltd/politics/mediums-deplatforming-mike-cernovich/
Aha, I found it. I wrote this back in February, when Medium decided to remove Mike Cernovich, Laura Loomer, and Jack Posobiec from their platform: https://medium.com/@sevvie/medium-made-a-big-mistake-banning-cernovich-loomer-and-posobiec-aac70bdeea28

This is the part of the decision which I see as strong precedent: "The court pointed out that the more an owner opens his property up to the public in general, the more his rights are circumscribed by the statutory and constitutional rights of those who are invited in."

From my understanding it is town square and state actor combination that is being claimed as what should prevent social media from banning people? That feels like a stretch but it would mean that US users couldn’t be banned unless they were doing something illegal in the town sq?

It would be great if you could explain the complexity and point to the relevant US laws. The great thing about discourse is the learning that comes from it.
That's exactly what I did, though. His responses were reductive and dismissive, leaving no room to see what he had to say as discourse in good faith. As such, to avoid argument, I chose to mute him.

If you just join a community and then you have to start muting existing members, it might be time to take a pause. We want every new peeper to contribute positively. Keep giving us your best and help build Peepeth to the best it can be. Microblogging with a soul.
I'm not defending the action; if anything, I regret responding in the first place.
My choice to mute @voyager was out of a desire to avoid argument; his insulting manner caught me offguard in comparison to the kindness and thoughtfulness I've otherwise seen here.
I don't like the idea of muting someone so early into my time here. But I also have little interest in watching someone disregard the complexity of Constitutional law and common law, out of some misguided superiority complex.

And I don't even have to google about Marsh vs Alabama, as I can tell that someone sued a state and won. Still, not applicable to a private sector in the context we're talking about here. If we just take a look at a line in Twitter ToS, we can see the following:
You really should read about Marsh v Alabama; it involves a city wholly owned by a private company forbidding the handing out of religious literature in public.
But it is clear to me, with this statement, you have no interest in discussing matters in good faith. So, muted.
Replying to @voyager (0x459948a40918d535407fd49bf2c041d546fc37ae)
Good News Club v Milford Central School "Under New York law, public schools may adopt regulations under which they open their facilities to public use during non-school hours." So this case involves a public school, not a private one. Soc. medias are not public institutions.
Law is argued on the specific details written in decisions, opinions, concurrence, and transcriptions, not merely single-sentence conclusions.
My message was not sent to insinuate you were wrong, or to start an argument. My apologies if I gave you that impression.
Replying to @voyager (0x459948a40918d535407fd49bf2c041d546fc37ae)
Strangely, you're not the first American thinking that the 1st Amendment has something to do with a censorship of a private company. It doesn't. It "<b>prevents Congress</b> from making any law...abridging the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press...". https://is.gd/FoeXP6
200 years of Supreme Court case law regarding the First Amendment disagrees with you. Marsh v Alabama, Good News Club v Milford Central School, Snyder v Phelps -- there is a lot of precedent to consider regarding a private entity which serves as public forum.

Yeah, it's terrible. I'm glad that people are waking up to the fact they are being spied on to enrich corporations. The "other" big tech company puts up a huge public fight for privacy --- but the code is all closed source. No great options, imho. Librem phone to the rescue?
PureOS looks promising, but is in desperate need of UX designers and full PWA support.

Immutability and mute buttons: the future of social networking.
This is so important. And it's not just civil war that it leads to, though that is often the end result. Before we get there, though, governments are authorized to commit atrocities, and changes in leadership extend those atrocities to other groups.

When someone says, "man I don't like my leadership." Then their counterpart says, "Yeah, I don't like mine either". And then they start to mentally trade one for the other, having to look for the lesser of two evils... because most politicians lately are divisive. Bad leadership.
