He doesn't even keep #DEEZ in his #peepeth wallet, @NateStripe. The man keeps all his most valuable assets in cold storage. ;)

I transferred my largest #Deez to a hardware wallet. I have some others in some other addresses, I need to amalgamate.

Wow, I've been offline the past 24 hours since posting this and was NOT expecting so many replies haha! Ok, so tie breaker comes down to time, put if you haven't. New qualifier is you must already be following me. Also, who is tracking what time we hit 1,000? haha @bevan ?

That’s one way to get the follow.

Once we get the 1000 peeper we can look up their user setup onchain for date and time.

Agree with @abcoathup - and setting up the Ledger is a breeze: https://www.callmegwei.com/2017/12/09/crypto-101-hardware-wallet-setup/

If you are buying a ledger, then using @callmegwei affiliate link is a nice idea to show support for his great content.

That’s very nice of you. Tips are always appreciated for the compliment.

I have funds in other addresses.

Peeping is low cost.

I second the Ledger Nano S. It is one of the less expensive wallets, and it has great support for a lot of currencies. It doesn't work flawlessly. It definitely has some quirks, but it gets the job done.

Ledger have free international shipping. Buy from them direct.

If you get one, you should try recovering the recovery phrase. (Annoying to type in the seed phrase but best to check).

Apr 14, 2018 21:07

I have AUD 12 cents in this address. That should get me to 1000 peeps before I have to top up.

@bevan How come some people have what looks like an Ether amount next to a little icon. Like for example yours shows 0.24085 next to a little icon, but other Peeps do not have it. It's not in the settings, just wondering. Great platform wonderful idea!!!

I assume that is tips received.

#peeplosophy The EU’s GDPR promises citizens the “right to deletion” (“right to be forgotten”). Watching to see if #blockchain devs in general consider solutions or just ignore:p

For something like Peepeth, unless IPFS supports a delete, I assume to comply with GDPR there will be a list of peeps and peepers that are marked as hidden. Clients compliant with GDPR will use the list. There may well be a client which specifically surfaces this data.

There are plenty of dapps that don't use the blockchain to store all information, but use a server as well for other info. However, I don't think social media sites can take much advantage from a hybrid model without being no different than what we already have.

I would consider peepeth client a hybrid. It maintains its own database. Other clients can only see peeps once written to the chain.

@abcoathup here’s an example of why #Peepeth might want to integrate easy private messages: I want to tell you about “buidling” in your message to the world, but I don’t wanna be a jerk about it by being all public:p

I believe that @bevan does have a DM in the pipeline.

Pondering lately - If FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) is the modern-day AOL circa. 1999, what/where is the modern-day equivalent of the "rest of the Internet" that eventually outgrew AOL?

Decentralisation e.g. Web3

I'll have to learn more to connect the dots between all of these things, most of which are brand new to me :)

Ask lots of questions.
Read the article on stateless contracts, then view one of your transactions on etherscan. Convert input to ASCII, use IPFS to view the JSON (starts with Qm).

Are there any efforts of open sourcing front ends or other parts of the system?

There is enough detail already to build at least a basic reader. @james built a reader (see https://peepeth.com/front_end page).

Can it be done by manually via the backend by user request? :)

From memory when I looked at the ABI it looked like you may be able to do it. Though I would wait for documentation and front end support, in case there is more that you need to do for the front end to work.

https://peepeth.com/front_end was shown to me earlier by @abcoathup, but I was looking for more educational / technical information too :)

Using the explanation of stateless contracts, the contract address and the ABI should give you enough information to build your own front end, at the very least a reader. I used that information to peep directly via IPFS and the smart contract, I also built a basic reader.

I don’t know if any dApp browsers support hardware wallets yet. It is on the list for MetaMask. https://github.com/MetaMask/metamask-extension/issues/717

Peepeth front end doesn’t support moving identity yet.

This is why it can be good to have your funds split into multiple wallets, or store your long term investments in "cold storage" (offline) wallets and spending cash in "hot" (online, actively connecting to network) ones.

I have about $10 at this address. More important is the identities associated (Peepeth).

If you have any significant value, recommend a hardware wallet.
