You would be amazed at just how not free it is to give away free stuff. ;)
You need a pull model, a faucet smart contract. Otherwise you are paying transaction fees and time.
You can down the charging a user but that is a token sale and open yourself up to any issues related to a token sale.
It’s after 4pm. Time to go outside.

Most of my friends/fam will forgo trying because using Toshi and/or a DApp browser will be too complicated for them. They’d prefer a standalone app. Everyone I know interested in crypto will know about peepeth soon enough though ;)
Two people have already encouraged their partners to peep. I will start when my wife gets back from England. Though I have fam that it would be in the too hard basket.
If you peep they will come

Everyone, thanks for holding down the fort as I roll out improvements! Appreciate all the suggestions.
Us the peepers need to keep peeping whilst you work on the platform. All good.

I haven’t seen the contract code. If you read the front_end page you have the contract address and the ABI and an article on how stateless contracts work. I was able to peep interacting with the smart contract using Kumavis’s UDAPP.
UDAPP: https://kumavis.github.io/udapp/
Peeps are in IPFS and the format looked self explanatory. Give it a go.

@bevan is the contract open sourced yet? I think I saw that you were going to do that, and someone else posted a read-only frontend. Thanks!

You can flag a peep as NSFW. I think hiding peeps will evolve. This is a brand new world. Looping in @brevan.

If peeps are permanent on both Ethereum and on IPFS, what does this mean for the posting of copyright infringement material? This is also worrying if someone takes someone else's material and monetizes it through tips. I wonder if there is a possible solution to this?

could the hide be implemented on the front-end only?
You could implement only on the front-end but there may be multiple clients each with their own implementations. I think hide needs to be decentralised. Whilst follow might be client only.

Is owner-only delete a possibility, or does the blockchain state not allow that? If the latter, then perhaps the post-owner could flag the post as "withdrawn" or something. Could also include a reason for withdrawal or some related message.
There is no delete from Ethereum once a transaction is confirmed. The IPFS hash for the peep/peeps is then immutable (until rent)
A hide could be implemented, though any client would need to respect it and there could be some which might not, or even focus on hidden peeps
@hannah does rock the tags.

an archive feature would be really good to at least give the option of hiding posts you might not want public anymore.
I assume hide a peep is already on the list but for the record @bevan #suggestion

Ooo good point. The post-then-confirm-onchain pattern offers a good opportunity to enable correcting typos and other first-draft type mistakes.
Though order of peeps in a batch then matter. Pressure on the 15th peep.

I've been thinking about what it means for a post ("peep"?) to be immutable. That has anti-censorship advantages for sure, but what if I post something that I later realize is insensitive and I want to take it down?
It is definitely a user education. Don’t peep what you don’t want future bosses, partners, grand kids to read.
I think there will be a need for a hide (rather than delete) peep.
There may be potential for an option to delete a peep prior to a batch save.

Yeah :/, I’ve been running the Windows version. Can’t wait for iOS to come out.
My first questions usually are: what is it and then does it work on mobile. Then I try it on the mobile dApp browsers.

Good points. This would be down the road anyway.
@bevan @callmegwei until key management in the OS I see users having a number of apps where they use the same key (I do this with Toshi/Cipher/Trust). Users should only keep a small amount of funds/tokens in these accounts. I see potential for peepeth being added to Toshi. (@sid)

First post on this truly amazing platform. Didn't know this was in development. Question: how will this marketed? What is the strategy to gain attention for the broader public? Big thumbs up from the Netherlands for @bevan + team. Chapeau!
I don’t know what @bevan has in mind but you can run your own mini-recruitment drive.
Ask friends/coworkers in crypto to join (anyone already down the rabbit hole).
Ask twitter followers.
Show a friend/family member how to peep on a mobile app, give them ETH.
Then repeat

We can only hope. The wayback machine has been making online archival permanance a thing for quite some time, but social media has been relatively exempt.
The idea of permanence and the reality may be a bit different. Lots of user education will be required.

Looking forward to more peepers, more diversity and a decentralised world.
We are moving to a decentralised world.
You manage your own keys. There is no central authority to recover them.
Peeps are public and you should treat them as they will last forever.
