Two racks of ribs are in the sous vide bath getting ready for tomorrow. 16 hours at 165 should do the trick and then it's off to the grill. Also have burgers in vaccuum bags ready to be sous vide bathed while the ribs are resting.
I've never had sous vide ribs before. I don't think I've ever had sous vide anything. I'm going to have to get one of these gadgets one day.

Calorie per dollar food list. Unsurprisingly, most of the "most efficient" items are derivatives of #1 (flour) and #3 (sugar). https://efficiencyiseverything.com/calorie-per-dollar-list/
We're just not efficient at evolving to utilize these processed foods.
Interesting list. Some of these values seem very questionable though.

Of the roughly 300 million tons of #plastic waste the world creates every year, an estimated 8 million tons makes its way into #oceans. Because the material often breaks down into tiny particles, the oceans contain an estimated 5.25 trillion #microplastics. https://bit.ly/2WX4sSA
We need a global ban on single-use plastics.
We already ran the test. It's a disaster.

Rhonda P and Satchin P did discuss at length that 'xenobiotics' will, on some (nitpicky?) level interrupt the beneficial processes engaged by prolonged fasting, but the non-caloric substances they specifically addressed were coffee, tea, and the like. pure electrolytes are fine.

I am leaving Sicily at just the right time. It is BAKING here. I can barely leave my apartment. .....which is pretty good for my work schedule.
Where to next?

Would you consider doing an electrolyte drink on your next one? (no sugar, just the actual salts) My previous fasts (only two multi-day ones) were water only as well but I've heard electrolytes improve the experience, potentially without much downside. Haven't researched it much yet, though.
I mainly go by the guidance of Dr. Rhonda Patrick, and her research indicates that anything that must be metabolized negates some benefits. It doesn't matter if it has calories or not.
I prefer to not risk losing benefit, so I probably would stick to only water.

Was it everything you dreamed of while fasting? After ending my last fast I proceeded to eat everything I'd been fantasizing about. It was fun at first, then I just felt very full :) No digestion problems though.
I couldn't keep food off my mind during the fast. The oatmeal and chicken probably tasted a lot better since I was so hungry.
I didn't go crazy on food at all today, which is probably part of the reason my stomach is still feeling good.

I need to try that. I don't even know if they've rolled them out to my city yet.
I'm curious about them, but I'm not trying one until they make one that is a little healthier. They are still, very much, a processed food.

If you catch, kill, butcher and cook an animal then there is no illusion that what you are eating is a life. If you are lucky enough to be able to eat healthily without eating meat then maybe you donβt **need** to eat meat.
Have you tried an impossible burger yet? I keep reading that they are getting quite popular.

What did you break your fast with?
I had oatmeal and slow cooker chicken. I found out the hard way that I can't have anything that isn't easily digestible after a fast.

Not fun, but bearable. One benefit was it saved a bunch of time I usually spent on meals.

I wish that donut was at the end of the tunnel. My first meal after the fast will be something very easily digestible, like oatmeal.

A ginger tea sounds nice. I've never tried it. Is there a spiciness to it like regular ginger or is that feature cut by the water and the steeping? The lemon and honey sound like good additions too. Sourness notes and sweet overtones.
It's definitely spicy the way I make it. The overlight non-boil is specifically to maximize potency while minimizing heat damage. You can easily just add water to tone it down.

Fresh ginger steeped overnight in hot, but not boiling, water. Add the juice of 1/2 lemon and a spoon of honey to serve.

Not in particular. We eventually want to do some small scale produce gardening, but we want to avoid all pesticide use. Using predatory insects seems to help, but I don't know if that will scale as we get more plants.
