Props for actually learning and speaking local languages. That’s exceptionally rare as I’m sure you’ve seen. What gets to me first is the lack of a stable community, however small, while on the road / abroad somewhere. Finding that makes a place feel more like home.
Oh yeah, big tip for that!
Find people *before* you go who will introduce you to others living there.
Make absolutely sure you have at least 2-3 expats or somewhat-peers who you will be able to occasionally break bread with, go on escapades, and talk casually with. Then = 🏡🌐

Haha, probably not ;) Still, trying hard to find a tool that addresses an actual pain point for people. Sales for TxBatch have been a lot slower than I expected. General message we're getting is "yep we have this problem, but only when we're busy, and we're not busy"
I wish Bogdanoff would return my calls. I was glad when he dumped in 2017 giving me a chance to accumulate some crypto, but he's taking a little long to pump it back up :(

Travelling is a job. You have to work at it. Hope you find your mojo.
I'm following Rolf's advice in the book Vagabonding - switch things up. For me, that means quitting trying to integrate for now, eating eggs and spinach in the morning like my New Zealand lifestyle even though Italians look at me like a madman for a big non-*dolce* breakfast.

I'm basically just seconding Vitalik's idea here: https://vitalik.ca/jekyll/general/2017/03/11/a_note_on_charity.html. As he points out, we'd need "sticker-issuing organizations", so Peepeth couldn't do it alone but it could shape the technical framework for those organization
Nice, hadn't seen that in a while. Thanks for linking @galoisconnection
Got chills listening to this. Akira the Don is a master musician. If you're depressed and feeling suicidal - which, by the way, is NORMAL and happens to nearly everyone at some point - check it out. https://akirathedon.bandcamp.com/track/suicide

I don’t think I would. I am Ethereum pretty exclusively though and not trading. So not the target market. I use Etherscan and for other sidechains use BlockScout (e.g. xDAI)
Thanks. How about something that detected ETH transaction IDs/addresses in a given piece of text?

Český Krumlov is beautiful. I remember I saw a hill outside of town and decided I wanted to get to the top of it. Great morning exploring the countryside.
I don't know a single thing about it except that it's the cheapest must-visit tourist city in Europe, which means it'll probably be a great trip.

Some of those cans are heavy. But it seems to pay pretty well (here at least): $35/hour in Oakland according to a cursory search on Glassdoor.
Not bad!

That's almost 2 weeks of income for many of the people these nets are trying to help. If we're going to build a platform that empowers people across the globe instead of perpetuating cycles of dependence then we need a reputation economy that doesn't reinforce existing inequities
Yes but shouldn't it be the responsibility for the richer countries to pay for that? Or are you saying that anyone should be able to get a badge regardless of what they donate?
It finally happened. I'm actually getting jaded with travelling and constantly having to speak a different language / getting misunderstood. Work and mundanity balances out play and curiosity.

Idea: a single webpage that allows you to display any transaction from any blockchain. The syntax simply looks like rootdomain.tld/btc/$transaction-id & displays a simplified version of the info you'd see on Etherscan or Blockchain.info, with links to view more. Would you use it?
The important concept here being that the only step needed for displaying a transaction is the URL itself.

I hope Peepeth continues to improve the badge system and create new donation tiers because the current scheme is actively hurting my ability to recruit fellow working class folk for whom $25 is literally the difference between affording food or medicine and paying for popularity
$25 isn't that much. Under 3 hours work in most countries. I'm pretty sure @Bevan is coming out with new badges and charities, though.
I've never met a garbage collector that wasn't likeable, the job seems to attract a ton of enthusiastic dudes. I might do it myself some point in the future...

#lkie Thanks for the rec. Re adversity: "A nation is born stoic, and dies epicurean." -Will Durant. The idea seems to apply somewhat to individuals too. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Wow, nice quote... I do like the idea that Stoicism naturally arises as a survival trait/with age - that got touched upon in "A Guide To The Good Life" by William Irvine.

I registered to donate my body to a local university. Med students can wear my head as a hat and also learn to perform medical procedures better. They burn your body afterwards.
Hahaha, yes also a great idea.

Sounds like a good use to me, for those who feel they need a coffin. I'm personally more in favor of cremation as the default.
I'm keen to just be thrown in the sea or earth, no formaldehyde or embalming chemicals.

Crazy idea: re-use plastic waste to make coffins. Current coffins aren’t designed to biodegrade anyway and it might send a good message by connecting plastic with death

Just read The Warrior Ethos by Steven Pressfield (in a rare single-sitting). Very nice book. Top takeaways: in warrior cultures: •Adversity+poverty is prized because it provides freedom •Shame is used to promote unity and honour •Dishonor is scarier that spears/bullets
Differences between shame & guilt based cultures was interesting. When you internalise your cultures ideas of right and wrong you get guilty when you “sin” & punish yourself. When you live in a shame based culture, face is everything & your happiness depends on your reputation.

While I also believe in what you say, there is a counterpoint. The elderly, while more experienced, are just as flawed as anyone else. It’s important to take a deep look at the insight they provide, because you’re taking in the good with the bad.
I agree with the sentiment of acknowledging people's flaws. But neither my grandparents nor I have ever pretended they're not flawed. I still believe they have a lot to offer me, because they are people I'd like to become like - self-responsible, open-minded, optimistic, curious.

How long do you spend on your phone per day? Going to cut back to 1 hour and see what happens.
Too much. There's one part of me that dislikes using such a small screen and knows how bad close range light is to eyes - the other part loves to lie down and read.
I'd love it if my laptop had a SIM card for sms/calls/data and I just had an music/audiobook player with Maps.
