Final thing before I log off, I still hate what he did & my heart goes out to the victims.

Also I'm happy to completely disagree with this quote. Immigrants + capitalism are fantastic, and, (as #Stoicism & #TheWork taught me) complaints never work on others, only yourself.

"People the don't study history are doomed to repeat it." when time and time again the fixation on the past is the probable cause for more atrocities than anything else. It's the root cause of Revenge which is what we have here.

Right? Good point there. Reminds me of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx5j98ueTKQ. The point of
the past is not to incite violence but to move past it.

It's just messed up that he had to kill 49 people to deal with his own existential crisis.

Yeah. Agree. He seems to be very driven by fear that white people will be eradicated. Honestly, I don't think there's been a better time to be white. Let alone human.

Hope this wakes up everyone to the fact that we're one world community no matter what place you're from.

I read the manifesto this morning into the afternoon. It's a delusion of grandeur of how to combat lower birthrates with actual genocide. The guy was methodical in his approach. Crazy as hell. He wanted a world wide reaction in deadly action. The guy is certainly chaotic evil.

But yeah, was really dumb too that he thought actual genocide would combat (passive) "white genocide". Like sure, go and shoot up a sacred place, that'll make everyone feel real safe & keen to have babies!

When insanity takes over, reason steps aside for a while. S/he who lives life without a meaning is already half-dead to Humanity.

I like the quote, but I disagree about him not having a meaning.

He created himself a meaning - the age old defending his kin from the foreign enemy. He was insignificant, then suddenly significant in a very real way. I think he felt alive, calm, and heroic.

Perhaps just making it expensive to peep, then n-1 less expensive to peep (yet also, less permanent) as replies stack up. No idea on how this would technically look yet, though.

True, good point.

You just gave me an idea though - make it expensive/risky (as in, tie your reputation/identity) to post top-level peeps - but make replies easier/more anonymous (and also more ephemeral/blockable)

Still, I trust @Bevan's judgement & look fwd to the future.

And by far my overall interpretation:

This is no longer something I can brush off and ignore. Not now it’s happened to my home city. I must find a way to make sense of what happened and prevent the behaviour in myself/others.

The solution to hate and fear is not ignorance.

Re #3: My takeaway: We all want to be significant (or at least, I’m 100% certain it’s a hardwired masculine trait). How can we find a way to allow more people to be important?

Maybe we need more fighting sports, masculine tribe-like activities, competitions, physical risks.

Mar 16, 2019 07:15

Just like you’re lying to yourself if you say you wouldn’t be a Nazi in WW2 Germany, you’re lying if you say the shooter was a deranged monster.

No. He’s far more similar to you and i than we want to admit.

Mar 16, 2019 07:11

And I also think that we (or at least the ‘we’ that is young Kiwi guys) should have some balls and recognise - he’s one of us - it’s our responsibility to fix.

Mar 16, 2019 07:10

I’m actually really angry that people are trying to shut down the manifesto. The video I can understand. But the manifesto should be read and analysed.

We should wake up to the fact that all the brutality came from a source. He wasn’t deranged. He reasoned himself into it.

And for others too - I think that it’s important we all hunt out what we’re hiding from & the part of our worldviews that don’t hold up. Every person who can read critically should read the manifesto. Understand the source of the brutality. Confrontation is the answer not hiding.
