It would be nice to have a social medium platform that doesn't have algorithms trying to divide users into groups and then use their differences to agitate for the purpose of keeping users online to sell them ads. Hope this place is that thing. #peepeth #decentral
This. Is. THAT THING.
We Peeple focus on common ground, diverse interests, and civil conversation. Like... people do... in real life.
It's really refreshing.
Welcome to Peepeth!

Let there be no uncertainty about this:
If you would be willing to trade the possibility of a more egalitarian and collaborative future for the bankers' paper - they would gladly mint more of it to prolong their relevance.
Of course - that would be a shortsighted trade, indeed.

and building someone else's dream doesn't have to be mutually exclusive to your own... /3
While all of that is probably true - having the time to consider your dreams and where they fit into the picture means that you're probably doing pretty well to begin with.
I hope a growing proportion of the world gets to reflect on such things.

I'm thrilled to see the marketplace simulation. Can't tell whether the demo is using any form of their Proof-of-Replication or Proof-of-SpaceTime primitives. Rumors are they've been running security tests, but I haven't found a primary source to verify. I give it 3.5/5 doges 🐕
Thanks for the report! It's on my radar - but man, who has the time... This whole space is moving a million miles an hour.

@bevan is there a need for translation to other language? I can help. 😁
I'd also like feedback if you do use it. Might seem overwhelming at first. The machine translations are all pulled on the fly from Google translate. Works great on desktop, haven't tested on mobile yet.
You find you language on the right and the source stays on the left.

My pleasure. Will update with some machine translations later, but would be AWESOME if people would double-check and revise/improve them. This will just get the ball rolling.

Would a Google Translate plug-in work? @bevan @CallMeGwei
I think it would def help, but isn't 100% accurate I'm sure.
At least that was my experience last year exploring Asian cryptocurrency exchanges. Sometimes I was completely lost - even with Google translate.

Good point! Peepeth needs a translate button, internationalization, and language settings. Appreciate your willingness to help on that front! Will DM you.
Here's my quick attempt to get people working towards a community solution. If any native/fluent speakers can chip in, that would be awesome. Can convert to diff format later.

Cool that a single person can develop and support a product like this. vs some multibillion dollar co 👏🏼
It's also cool WHY.
When Twitter went public, profit became their most import goal - by definition.
Bevan is trying to make the world a better place. Not to say the two are mutually exclusive... but priorities do matter.
Web 3.0 allows for forking when priorities change. Win.

Hmmm.... kinda depends on where you live. A train would do people very little good in a rural area. Autonomous cars don't discriminate based on population density. (Well... probably not perfect on dirt roads...)

In my opinion, i believe #peepeth is trying to build a #decentralized social networking platform free from #fake news and #hate filled content. There's another place for that kind of garbage, it's called #Twitter.
This is spot on.
While the back end infrastructure is open to all...
This particular front end, and the Peepeth community broadly, has clear and well communicated goals. Ignoring those goals would be detrimental to what we are all trying to accomplish in this space.

I'm wholeheartedly glad you stayed! I didn't ask you to leave! I asked you to take hateful videos elsewhere.
We're all more than a single post/idea
Debating free speech in abstract is a valuable and often ignored exercise - one that doesn't requite a hateful video to jump-start

Replying to @Sydyk (0x7205a329e8d0780d02604e4041c0167baa33d310)
Fallacy- we are specifically talking about speech in a public setting, not on someones property.
If you're promoting your hate on a public street in front of someones property - you are still being hateful. You are still being counterproductive. You are making yourself feel better at the expense of of others. You are not making progress towards change.
Just... on the street

If Free Speech means anything it means the right to criticize ideas. Peepeth is a DAPP so you have no authority to censor me either. Deal with it.
Don't be preposterous, of course I can censor you (for myself)!
I can mute you. But you need interaction, tbh.
Criticizing ideas can be done tactfully and with a spirit of good-will towards neighbors. People should have the power not to be subjected to hate. Online and offline.

Videos like this really make me appreciate Free Speech! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drT2ZOm3vPA
This is thoroughly abhorrent.
Attacking peoples' cherished ideals in an abrasive and disrespectful manner is not just "free speech"–it is distastefully confrontation-seeking, callous, uncreative and destructive.
Peepeth is about free, conscientious speech. Take this elsewhere.

Thanks for pointing that out. My take is that we need to be clear when and that comments might have been made on a previous iteration, give commenters a chance to update or simply re-apply their comments, but beyond that, old versions should possibly be allowed to fade from IPFS.
Fade. Hmmm, I suppose that would be possible with ipfs... but not guaranteed... and "pure" blockchain solutions probably wouldn't have any possibility for "fading".
I say let the mistakes live! Alongside the corrections.
