I've been tossing this over for a while now on Akasha and now here, and I get that the blockchain is forever; what I don't get is why intelligent approaches to iteration are so lacking. Why shouldn't someone be able to edit a post and simply have the old version available?
@abcoathup has advocated for versioning functionality.
I, too, think it would be an excellent approach.

been pretty skeptical of Ethereum gaming so far, but cracked and picked up some pre-sale cards for Gods Unchained. pretty excited to get into another TCG since my Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh days, 15-20 yrs ago.

Yes after Vitaliks entry and lets hope the Peepeth platform gets bigger
Not to be a downer, but he also joined Leeroy and never used it. Of course Leeroy didn't have the super-cool post-to-Tweet feature at the time (@cruz was working on one)...
I'm afraid we will just have to keep growing regardless of Vitalik's activities here. We won't wait! ;-)
Hey, you... YEAH YOU!
Remember that time that YOU contributed to dethroning closed social networks. The ones getting rich off of peoples data and using their concentrated wealth and influence to make more money at all costs...
Of course you do. IT'S RIGHT NOW.
You're awesome.

Wow, thanks for the responses! Glad the Peepeth community is alive and supportive! Right now the project could use more people speaking on development, mining, and how blockchain can empower people in struggling economies. Being based in Los Angeles is a definite plus.
Great community here. Really, most of the crypto space in general. Of course you run into a fair-share of get-rich-quick types... but if you look for people *involved* in the space, they're generally hopeful the world can be a better place and that blockchains might get us there.

Welcome to Peepeth, Zach! I wish it were that simple. However, until alternatives or recycled plastic can come in at the same cost as new plastic, there is going to be a demand. What ideas do you have to create alternatives/recycle, etc? #welcome
Reproduce... less?
Teach people to respect the planet, which normally means satisfying their basic needs first. Focus on income inequality, education, transparency, and responsibility... most people don't want to trash the planet if they (can afford to) stop and think about it.
Just mulling over what makes something "valuable" and how the relates to "captured value" ... prompted by this thread:
https://twitter.com/RyanSAdams/status/1022114398683508736
Curious what you Peeple think. Random/Tangential thoughts/reflections also appreciated.
If the Ethereum and Bitcoin blockchains were both frozen at their current scaling levels - would the latter be a better "store of value" ? Scaling frozen: what if the hashrates became equal, would the answer change?
Is being less ambitious more valuable given tech hurdles?

I want free peeping for all. With no ETH required. Setting up a new account on GitHub/twitter to then verify is a hoop with no value. Itβs only valuable if that account has value/reputation. I like the bond idea but then ETH is required again.
So we're sorta on the same page... well, as far as the hoops go.
So you'd ideally like no ETH requirement, just a private key and some metamask signing? ...hmmm...

Looking for people to interview for a cryptocurrency/blockchain documentary. Any interesting stories?
Fly to Kansas City, sit around the fire pit and interview @jtnichol - as a mod of ethtrader he's seen a lot. Also, just a nice guy.
Blockchain is so broad - are you looking to interview devs, users, speculators, traders, cryptography experts, crypto-economists, game theorists...

IC thanks, This moment I see only this indeed. Let mee see how to solve this, nice lesson.
Yep, because you are not "logged in"/haven't set up your Peepeth identity on your Toshi wallet.
BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR TOSHI SEED WORDS before you mess with it, if you've already been using Toshi. It only supports one wallet / identity at a time. Alternatively, use Trust wallet.

Yess, I create a post on my laptop by going to peepeth.com. But on my mobile where I have Toshi and launch Peepeth from there, I don't see a post button?
If all goes well, and both wallets are using the same keys - then you'll see this when you log in on mobile:

You need to get your Mobile wallet and your Desktop Wallet (MetaMask) using the same Ethereum address.
This isn't too hard. Just import your wallet into Toshi. Then when you go to Peepeth on mobile you should see your account and be able to post.

Does GitHub verification qualify for free peeping?
I'm a little confused about how making users jump through an extra hoop - ie making a brand new Github/Twitter to qualify for free peeping - is better than just making them solve a captcha or something... or post a small ETH bond.
What is actually being achieved?

I wouldn't advocate for banning tobacco. You're right, it would probably just create a black market. However, I fully support the warning labels and awareness campaigns. Since we can't ban a smart contract anyway, the best we can do is warn potential victims about the risks
I think we are very much on the same page.

Hey! Aren't you the one that told me... we are all a brand?
... I have been contemplating writing as myself under the CallMeGwei brand. Lots of outlets shy away from listing articles by "anonymous" authors and apparently the pseudonym Call Me Gwei can't fly under the radar.

I'm certain there have been entire books written trying to answer that question. Even if we had an answer, there's not any way to stop it as far as I'm aware. This is the price, and the benefit of decentralization. Here's hoping the pros far outweigh the cons.
I'm right there hoping with ya!
I genuinely think that they will prove to be...

I'm all for freedom, but I can't support predatory structures. Sure, some people are just gambling. But you know other people will lose their life savings on this. Same as any ponzi/pyramid. Should people be free to get involved with and spread a ponzi scheme that hurts others?
If warning labels are good enough for cigarettes... then being openly transparent about ponzi schemes seems... at least as cautionary.
The consequences of participation may very likely be bad - as long as it isn't hidden, allow people the freedom to exercise their own agency.

I mean, look at tobacco products. Plastered with warning labels in most jurisdictions and people still use them. If we made it "illegal" what percent of people would still use tobacco products? What percent would shift to other unhealthy substances instead?

Would we be genuinely helping anyone by stripping away their freedom of choice?
I *completely* understand your sentiment and am generally bent in that direction myself. But if people wish to participate in "bad" behaviors, they will always prevail in finding ways to do so...
@bevan, Peepeth points seem to be off a bit... since Mosquito badges alone are worth 25 points now.

Typo on my first Peep. This is going to be a riot.
It's kinda of liberating *not* being able to delete and redo a posting.
Your proceed carefully and then you commit. And life goes on. No do-overs. It is what it is.

How does it get fixed? Where does it get fixed? Does it get fixed for every front end pulling in the username?
...just curious...

Even if the contract never gets broken, Fomo3D is still a transparent ponzi scheme. You get paid with other people's loss. At some point, the game will end, and a large number of people will lose.
I'm not a big fan of these kind of "games" - but if it thrills people... they should have the freedom to participate.
Transparency and freedom - as glad as I am to have them in this space - constantly leave me scratching my head... is that really what people want?

Finally got around to setting up this thing through Toshi, perhaps I can be more active now! I've heard people that use Cipher too, is there much difference between the two?
Cipher was acquired by Toshi... so Toshi will likely be more like Cipher was as time goes on. Check out Trust, too - also very popular and coded by a resident Peeper.

I don't understand the snobbery elitism that goes on in crypto and prefer to be kept out of this type of energy. Let's keep it 100 and respect everyones opinion. I don't agree with some tokens/coins but it's all good and do you, what you put your money in is your business.
I'm inclined to agree with this.
*However* - some "projects" are more or less thinly veiled attempts at defrauding people who have not done their due diligence. These "bad apples" could set back the entire space.
This is a very ideological space- and that's great! Just be nice.
